HOKITIKA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, December 14. It is stated that the formation, of a selling organisation among the West is Lively t'o realise increased prices in the New Year. The Christchurch yards, however, are now well-stojcked with timber 01/tuined at cajsy rates. The Borough Council is having the streets graded and cleaned up, with the aid of the Government power grader, for the holidays. The “Renowned Revellers” lust night drew another good house. The entertainment for two nights realised a surplus of £9O fop the Eire Brigade Lowjards the New Zealand Demonstration entertainment outlay. A presentation of a set or gramophone records was made to Mrs Duff far the company by Mr D. J. Evans, and the recipient suitably responded. A dance was then held. A number of men are employed on the Lako Ranieri road, with the County road plant, putting the highway in order for holiday traffic. The road at Blip Hill and Boucher’s Hid is considerably improved, and after grading and levelling of the road for its full length, it is being hardened with the County’s ten-ton roller. The Hokitika Amateur Swimming Club is holding its opening swimming carnival in the Municipal Baths on Wednesday, December 26ar, (Boxing night j. The programme is out for rhe West Coast bowling tournament, which takes place om Hokitika} Club’s green co'ninieneing on Monday, February 11th and continuing the following days Entries for both rink and pairs competitions close on January 19th.
