REEFTON NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, December 12. The Cronadun school garden is at present a pretty sight, and a credit to the teacher (Mr R. Don) and the pupils. Miss B. Garth left by the Christchurch express yesterday* to spend Christmas with her sister, Mrs T. Morgan, of Waihi. The Secretary of tbe Inangahua Coal and Gold Miners’ Union (Mr D. McKane) received the following communication by telegram from Mr G. C. C. Black, M.P. fdr Motueka, yesterday: “Kindly advice af Rcefto.i coal mines are supplying coal to the New Zealand Railways, and in whaquantities.” A reply was despatched as follows: “No orders from the New Zealand Railways have been received for coal by the Reefton coal mines, but they are all anxious to receive a share of orders for same.” Mr J. Willis left for Christchurch by the express yesterday. The swimming carnival at the Reefton baths, postponed from Saturday on account of unfavourable weather, will be held on Saturday next. One of the whips of the United Party is the young member for Motueka, Mr G. C. Black, upon the allotment to which office he is to be congratulated. He seems to be looking after our needs, and a telegram published in these notes has been received from him. Mrs E. Trilby, of Auckland, arrived from Christchurch last evening on a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Griggs. REEFTON PUBLIC PICNIC.

A well attended meeting of the picnic committee took place at the Miners’ Union office last evening, Mr F. E. Williams occupying the chair. The total cash in hand was regarded as very satisfactory. The Chairman, in discussing the financial state of the picnic, stated that the public were to be heartily thanked for their ready response to a sports day for the children. A sum of £3 10/- was received with thanks from Mr A. Cereseto, picture theatre proprietor, being the result of a picture benefit entertainment. The ladies present were elected to the committee, with power to add to same, and the gentlemen were elected a sports committee, with power to add. It was decided to adopt last year’s sports programme again this yea* - . Messrs T. Williams, D. McKane, H. Currie, A. McKenzie and J. Baird were appointed to act as a convening com mittee. It was resolved to invite the Inangahua Silver Band to the picnic, ind abo ask the Band’s permission to use the Band Room for the committee. The matter of arranging cars for transport of hospital patients to the picnic, was left in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary. It was decided to hold next meeting on Tuesday, December 20, at 7.30 p.m.
