POLICE BRIBERY CHARGES
NIGHT CLUB QUEEN’S Handsome “Gifts.” LONDON NIGHT CLUB SCANDAL. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn). LONDON. December 10. At the resumption of the Goddard case, John Wilkin, police constable, under Goddard until October 31. when he retired after twenty-six years* service, gave evidence that Goddard handed over various sums varying from 20 to 50 shillings, which he stated he received at the various West End clubs and cabarets, which were under observation. The sums were handed over twenty to thirty times in eighteen months, beginning in 1927. Goddar*. handed over several pounds saying they came from Mrs Meyrick. At this stage Meyrick*s objected to her name being mentioned, but the Magistrate overruled him. say j ing “Don’t interrupt.” Wilkin, proceeding, said that Meyrick’s Forty-Three Club was unde r the ovservation of himself and GoddarU throughout the period of her gifts. Superintendent Morton gave evidence that the anonymous lei ter previously referred to, leading up to the inquiries, was signed by “ex-waiter.” and spoke of heavy brio is to the police. r ho hearing was adjour r?d.
