MAYOR AS BARMAN.
The Mayor of Barnstaple recently acted as barman at Barnstaple Guildhall and ladled out beer. specially brewed by corporation officials in accordance with an ancient secret recipe from massive silver bowls into silver loving cups for distribution among the assembly. Great crowds tried to get in. This function, known as the Toast and Ale. Ceremony, marks the opening of a three days’ fair. LONDON’S FINE HIDDEN DOME. The English possess the second largest dome in the world, but hide it. so that its fine, exterior is not to be seen. This is the dome of the British Museum Library. A visitor tried to find a glimpse of the dome from outside. But it was not until, from the top of Drury Lane, looking towards Bloosmbury, he saw an are against the skyline, and discovered it to be a ’ segment of the dome. 1 1 PURSUED BY HIS BAIT. I A West Somerset fisherman dug out ■ a wasps’ nest, after poisoning the ■ wasps, and took it home to use the I grubs as bait. He put the nest' in side the oven ready for the next time, . he wanted to go fishing. A few days >, later he heard a buzzing sound eomt ing from the oven. When he opened the oven door thousands of wasps flew •t out. The fisherman made a beeline ;o for the door, with his dog and cat eloso on his heels.
