LABOUR GAINS SIX.
IN FEDERAL ELECTIONS. Chance of Five More Seats. (Australian &■ N.Z. Cable Assn). SYDNEY, November 20. Labour has definitely won six seats in the House of Representatives, and they have an excellent, chance of winning five more, which will bring their strength to thirty-four, in a House of seventy-five. The seats won include three in N.?w South Wales, one in Victoria (by default, owing to the Government candidate failing to nominate in time), one in South Australia, and one in Queensland. The counting of the primary votes still continues. The distribution of preferences begins at the end of the week, when doubtful contests will be decided, and likewise the fate of the Ministerial candidates for the Senate. DEFEAT OF VICTORIAN MINISTRY. MATTER REFERRED TO PARLIAMENTARY PARTY. MELBOURNE, November 20. The. State Ministry (Labour) lengthily discussed the position arising from the defeat in the Assembly. It was decided to refer the position to the State Parliamentary Party. It is understood that Cabinet will suggest asking for a dissolution, and if -the Governor does not agree, it will be recommended that the Ministry resign In the latter event, it is understood that Mr McPherson is prepared to undertake the formation of a composite government of Nationalists and Country Pai'tyt ■
