POLAR EXPEDITION.
Byrd’s Enterprise. > VIEWS OF SIR DOUGLAS MAWSON. ■WELLINGTON. November 20. Sir Douglas Mawsoii arrived from Sydney this morning. While in England he made investi-' gations in regard to a suitable ship and equipment for carrying on further coastal surveys in the South Australian region, a matter he hoped to see finalised during the coming year. Discussing various Antarctic expeditions, he said there was no question that Byrd’s expedition might be ex. pected to return with an immense amount of valuable information relating to Ross Sea area. Very valuable results should accrue, because of his splendid equipment and good management. It was evidence that Sir Geo. Wilkins’ expedition, on the other hand, was limited in personnel and equipment, and taking with this the limitation of base, it was not likely to accumulate a great deal of information of scientific value, although it might be abl e to chart some of the unknown coast lines.
