HUSBAND’S JEALOUSY. MELBOURNE, October 2(5. A fearful <>n dead, when examined doctor. After attacking his wife the husband cut hi; own throat, and was taken to the hospital in a dying condition. The victims were: — Bessi e Worthington 25 years of age married. 11 ut t on-st reef, Thornbury, dead. Henry Worthington, 33 years of age. volunteer wharf labourer, condition critical. When Constable Feld t man arrived at the house in response, to a telephdiie message, shortly after midnight, he was faced .with a gruesome sight. 'There was a pool of blood in the pa sage of the back room. Mrs Worthington was lying on her back in another large pool of blood, some distance away. A blood stained razor, the edge of the blade of which was badly chipped, was lying in the passage. The husband, although he had a fearful gash in his throa'. was con srj jp- and he is alleged to have ini no-d the police that jealousy drove him to Ynake the attack.
“I loved her,” he said. “Another volunteer worker robbed me of her affection. ’ ’ The parties were married only nine months ago. Worthington was a pro fersional dancer, but having been out of work during the waterside s'rike, he took on a job as a volunteer wharf labourer. The first news of the tragedy was received by the police when a young girl, a sister of the dead woman, rushed into the Thornbury Police Station, appealing for i»»»|p, and vaguely outlining what had happened. It i> stated ‘hat Mrs Worthington retarded from the city about 10 o’clock last night and went to bed shortly afterwards. Some time lat r a scream was heard and Mri Pa-ice, the •woman’s mother, lush'd into the passage and saw the dead body of her daughter. Worthington staggered into the passageway with his throat cut. The police were then informed. Mrs Worthington wa.found in a pool of blood on the bedroom floor, and Worthington was in the pas-age still conscious.
