(From Our Own Correspondent.) I REEFTON, November 1. ’ Miss A. Duffy, of Wellington, is at present on a holiday visit to her sister, I Mrs R. Pennington. Reefton. and leaves on return to-morrow morning. Eight parties of four men each have been put on the Maruia Road, which somewhat relieves the tension of unemployment in. Reefton, but nevertheless a goodly number of workers are on the lookout in the town for employment before Perhaps if a change takes place in the Motueka electorate these “Colonials” could be found a job. The result of the semi-finals of the golf championships is as follows: —Ladies.. Mrs Instone beat Mrs 1. Patterson 5 up and 4, Mrs T. Patterson beat Mrs Sharpe 5 up and 4. Men: G. Hubbard beat A. McKenzie 5 up and 4, W. GorePorter beat P. H. In stone 7 up and 5. The finals will be played during the coming week-end between Mesdame.s Instone and T. Patterson, and Messrs Hubbard am] Gore-Porter, the ladies over 18 holes, and the men over 36. : Mr F. J. Easther. who left • for ' Christchurch on Tuesday, was the successful applicant for the position of manager of the Federal Club, Christ- | church, from among a large number of applicants from all over the Dominion. During Mr Easther’s short residence in Reefton h e has assisted all the local clubs, and lent aid in many of the quarters for the goodwill of the town. All who know him will sincerely regret his departure, though at the same time congratulating him on securing such an excellent appointment. Mr Easther leaves for his new position at an early date. Mr E. W. Spencer’s gelding Smithereens was sent by Tuesday’s express to Christchurch, where he will compote at the N.Z. Cup meeting. The Rugby Union’s annual ball takes place at the Theatre Royal to-morrow (Friday) evening, and is a decided attraction in Reefton at the present time. Special features will be the elaborate decorations, an excellent orchestra, aud a hand-around supper. The footballers will be waiters, a new departure from scrum formations.
