SYDNEY’S COAL.
POLITICAL PROPAGANDA ALLEGED. (Received August 24 at 7.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 24. Before the Coal Commission, exAlderman Holdsworth gave evidence that he never received one penny in connection with his Aldermanic duties. He was Chairman of the Electric?y Committee of the City Council. ll l ' had never attempted to influence the Council officials in respect to the coal renders of Byrnes Ltd., or Peacock.' He had not b en in collusion with anyone to prevent ’.he acceptance of Moore’s tender. Witness declared that ‘it was only dendicts of the coal trade who had made the charges that were under review by the Commission, and it was only political propaganda. The Labour Party ad minis 4 ration was the cleanest since its charter was granted to Sydney. Th 1 hearing was adjourned to September 3rd. when it is expected Mr Johnston, will be well enough to attend.
