(From Our Own Correspondent.) Miss M.;{ Patterson,;-! who lias been spending a holiday with her parents, returned to Ikamatua on Saturday. Miss I. Leach returned to Christchurch by Saturday’s express. Mr Stevens (Dunollie). who has been <•>l a holiday visit to Christchurch and Wellington, returned by Saturday’s express. Airs W. Downes, who has been on an extended holiday visit to the North Island, returned by Saturday’s express. Mrs Garvey, who has been on a visit to her daughter in Christchurch returned by Saturday’s express. Master A. Gilligan returned on Saturday from a holiday visit to Wellington. The bowjers’ euchre tourney was held on Saturday evening. The winners were: Mrs Taylor 1, Mr J. Davison 2. The ladies of the Runanga Plunket Society are to be congratulated on the splendid concert staged for the Society’s benefit on Friday evening last. Every available seat in the Miners’ Hull wa s occupied. The Convent, Se'hool. children opened the programme with the song “The Wee Hoose ’Mang the Heather.” Miss A. Radcliffe sang very pleasantly “My Crinoline,” and Mr A. Houghton “Meet Me at Twilight.” Miss Millar (Greymouth) contributed a (dog dance. Master and Miss E. Armstrong, piano and violin duet; Mrs S. His Worship the Mayor thanked the people for their patronage, and the Grevmouth arliste s and the local ones, who had made th" concert such a success. BOROUGH COUNCIL. - At the meeting of the .Runanga Borough Council there were present Crs Duggan, Boddy, Conuel, Southward, Armstrong, and II is Worship the Mayor. It was resolved that Cr Boddy’s motion be brought up at the next meeting. Cr Boddy gave notice to move that the resolution on the minute book re_ garding all printing and advertising to be given to Argus Coy. bo rescinded. Accounts amounting to £29 9s 2d were passed for payment. It was resolved the Council meet tlie balance of 12s 5d to be collected for cost of the water scheme survey. Domain. —It was. resolved that Mr James be advised that the Council, intends to go on with the top-dressing of the Domain immediately. r ri’;e Mayor’s action in employing a man to cut rushes, etc, on the Domain ■was endorsed. 11. was resolved that the Clerk endeavour to sell 9 sheep and 11 lambs belonging to the Domain Board.

Advice was received that thirds amounting to £l7 10s 7d had been credited to the Borough. Advice was received from T. F. Martin re proposed diversion to avoid Hooding of properties in Dunollie.—lt was r solved that, in order to reach some finality in this matter, the Councillors meet on Tuesday evening and view the place, and have power to taVc action. ( The Health Inspector wrote with reference to a few small ccmplaints. making recommendations concerning same. —lt was resolved that the Inspector be recpiested to confine his attention to nuisances arising from Raleigh Creek and butcher shops, as the Council could attend to the other small matters in the borough. Thp Secretary of the. Men’s Gymnastic Club wrote asking the Council to place at the Club’ s disposal the room in the Gymnasium which was used as a Council office. —It was resolved that the request be granted, and that the Council pledge itself to give every assistance to the Club. It was resolved that the weeds, etc, be cleared from the Hall to the ( oul--Iha rd Memorial, and that the Mayor’s action re the engaging of road drag be endorsed. It was resolved that Mr James bo asked- to meet a deputation from the Council on Saturday morning, to discuss the spending of the £lOO road grant. The Clerk was instructed to write to the local constable with reference to the continued speeding of cars, etc, in the borough, and urging that the matter lie referred to the Inspector of Police.
