FARMERS’ UNION

ROTOMANU BRANCH. A meeting of the Rotonianu Branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Schoolroom on Thursday, when Mr A. J. Palmer occupied the chair. i Prior to the commencement of the meeting, the Chairman moved a vote of condolence and sympathy be extended to Mr Maughan and son, in their recent sad bereavement. The motion was carried in silence, members standing. The minutes of the previous meeting was read and confirmed, and correspondence was received from the Minister of Public Works re Crooked River Bridge, the wire acknowledging the rereccipt of the Secretary’s letter, and stating the Minister was looking into the position, ami would notify him later. A further communication stated that £750 was placed on the estimates for material last year, and that when the estimates were considered for 192829, it would receive every consideration. The Minister of Agriculture wrote in reference to the Union’s request as to exemption from the petrol tax, stating it was under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department, and notifying the Secretary it had been referred to that Department, also asking th in to forward particulars. The Minister also wrote re the pork subsidy, apologising for not writing earlier, owing to being away from Wellington. A letter from the Superintendent of Advances to Settlers notified the branch that the Rural Credits -were administered by the Public Trust, which was the proper authority to write to for information. Mr T. Becker wrote asking for particulars as to joining the Union, as he wished to become a member. On the motion of Mr John Ryan, seconded by' Mr D. Larkin, Mr Becker was admitted as a member of the Union as from after the annual meeting.
