MAN FOUND DEAD. NEW I’LYMOI TH, Feb. 9. A man of about 60 years of age was found dead, on Junction Road at eight o’clock this morning. There were no marks on the body to suggest the cause of death. Among his effects there are some papers with the name of G. Hughes, which shows that he belonged to the Wellington Carpenters and General Labourers’ Union, and the New Zealand Labour Party. A swag was found on the roadside one hundred yards from the body. A Maori boy, Hurl Tiki Tulun, was drowned in a small lake at Te Puia Hot Springs. The boy had been missing since Sunday. His body was found yes terday by two of the hospital staff. EXPLOSION IN BACON FACTORY. TAURANGA, February S. While engaged in singeing pigs with kerosene blow lamps at the local bacon factory and slaughterhouse this morning, an explosion occurred, as the result of which a yauth, James Clifford, was severely burned on arms, face, and legs, and a Maori youth, Jack Napier, was burned on the face. Both were removed to the hospital. The cause of the explosion is not known. MAN AND YOUTH DROWNED. TAUMARUNUI, February 8. At an inquest at Kaitieke to-day, concerning the deaths of Archibald John Morgan, 23, residing with his parents at Raitieke, and Donald Anderson, 16, farm hand, whose parents reside at Raurimu the Coroner, Air A. S. Laird, returned a verdict of accidental drowning in the Retaruke River. Elizabeth Moodie Morgan gave evidence that Anderson, who was unable '.o swim, got into difficulties, and her son went to his assistance. Anderson grappled with him, and both sank. She swam out to try and get them, but was unable to do so_, and went for assistance. The bodies were located some twenty minutes later in twelve feet of water, by a young man named Allan Gray, who dived for them, but was unable to lift them. Eventually the bodies were recovered by means of entangling a pole in the costume worn by deceased. . _ Ji
