SWIMMING.

Olympic Tests. AT THE NATIONAL GAMES MEETING. SYDNEY, January 15. The Olympic swimming tests were continued. The two hundred metres was won by E. Jones (West Australia) in 2.35 3-5. The fifteen hundred metres, free style, was won by M. Ryan (New South Wales) in 22.30. The high fancy dive, and high plain dive were w'on by T. Morris (Victoria). The hundred metres women’s back stroke was won by B. Mealing (New South Wales), in 1.29 1-5. Hundred metres women’s free style, was won? by E. Davey (New South Wales) in 1.17 1-5. YESTERDAY’S SWIMMING RACE. The weekly swimming race held at the Municipal Baths yesterday, over a length of the bath (33 1-3 yards), re. suited as follows: —First heat: J. Morrissey (4 sec) 1, B. Quinn (scr) 2, N. Kiely (5 sec) 3. Also started: 11. Trouland (1 sec). Morrissey took the lead shortly after the start, and kept it, defeating Quinn by a yard, the latter swimming comfortably, gaining second place by a touch from Kiely. Time 23

Second heat: J. Beban (5 sec) 1, B. Brown (3 sec) 2, 11. W. Brown (5 sec) 3. Also started: C. O’Leary (1 sec), P. Deere (2 sec). The competitors were bunched at half-way, B. Brown then taking the lead. Nearing the end the limit man, Beban, who had dropped back, came again, touching in front of B. Brown, with H. Brown third just in front of Deere and O’Leary. Time 24 3-5. Final: B. Quinn 1, J. Morrissey 2, B. Brown 3. This was a good race. Mor. risscy, B. Brown, Kiely, Beban and H. Brown were in a line when half the distance had been covered, with the back-marker, Quinn, swimming well, fast making up his handicap. Quinn caught the field soon after, going on to win by two yards. The finish for second was exciting, Morrissey and Brown touching almost simultaneously, Morrissey just getting there. The time, 19 1-5 secs, was a fine effort on the part of the winner.
