SOVIET FOR N.S.W.!
MUTCH HAS AN AFTER-DINNER SPASM.
SYDNEY, November 29.
Speaking at a luncheon in his honour, by the Constitutional Club, Mr T. D. Mutch said that the Labour movement in New South Wales was no longer the movement to which he had given a quarter of a century’s work and service. “It is now based on the Russian model, without any question or any doubt. Not only its general scheme, but also in its methods are those adopted by the Soviet. Russia has direct representatives in New South Wales, and they are doing work for which they are paid. It is not necessary to-day to be a member of the Labour Party to control the Labour movement. It is found to be sometimes better not to be a member of a firm when more business can be done by not being a member.” He then outlined the methods adopted by the Executive of the Australian Labour Party, and said that they had been done in accordance with instructions issued by the Third International. The Labour movement to-day in New South Wales was controlled by a modified form of the Soviet system. He concluded by stating that he would say definitely that evidence indicated an attempt was successfully being made to capture the Australian Labour Party Executive in this State, and turn it into a miniature Soviet, to bo extended to every State in the Commonwealth.
