NIGHT RACING PROHIBITED. SYDNEY, November 24. The Government has decided to prohibit night racing, including trotting, after January next. GUILTY OF MURDER. BRISBANE, November 22. Patrick Fitzroy Solmon, found guilty of the murder of Patrick Dowling, was sentenced to imprisonment for life. Solmon pleaded that he was suffering from the effects of liquor. He had a scuffle with Dowling, but did not know what happened. WORKLESS MEN’S DEMONSTRATION. SYDNEY, November 24. A large body of unemployed stormed at the Trades Hall, and took possession of one of the assembly halls, where they held a meeting. SOLDIER SETTLEMENT DEFICIT. SYDNEY, November 25. The annual report of the AuditorGeneral states that from July 1915 to June 1917, Murrumbidgee Irrigation area and Soldier Settlement had shown a. loss of £3.259,000.
