HOKITIKA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, August 31. The Westland Power Company expect lo dispose in North Westland of twice as much electricity as at first anticipated. Native timber will be used for poles to reticulate the locality. The Hokitika ladies’ hockey team put up a very good performance to-day in securing a draw with the Mawhe’a Club at Greymouth, making them equal in the competition. General satisfaction is also expressed at the result of the rep. Rugby game, in which the boys from Westland gave a very good account of themselves, especially the younger back players.

The death of a very well-known South Westland resident, Mrs Geo. Scott-Robertson, of Hari Hari, occurred at the Westland Hospital at 2 p.m. to-day, after a painful illness, following upon an operation recently for appendicitis. The deceased, who was a daughter of the late Peter Hende, of Hende’s Ferry, was fifty-four years of age, and was born at Hende’s Ferry, having been a well-known figure in that district for the past quarter of a century. Her husband died seven years ago and she is survived by three sons, Messrs Leslie, ’George and Louis Seott-Robretson, of Harihari, and she also leaves four brothers, Messrs Carl Hondo (Kokatahi), Harold Hende (Harihari), Johann Hende (Harihari) and James Hende. (Christchurch), while Mr Chas Lucas (Harihari) is a brother-in-law. The funeral takes place on Friday afternoon.

The wedding was solemnised, to-day at St. Mary’s Church of Miss Mary Dale, oldest- daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Dale, of Weld Street, Hokitika and Mr T. Roberts, of Cronadun, Inangahua. Miss E. Dale was bridesmaid, ami Mr P. Gallaghre, of Cronadun, was best man, while the ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Finnerty. The Hokitika Miniature Rifle Club held the first shoot of a three-shoot handicap match last Monday evening, and the best scores were as follows: — Gents:—-Messrs G. Kelly 35 (possible 35), J. W. Haile 35. M. Hutchison 34, S. Shannon 33, A. Wallace 33, R. Apleton, R. Palmer 32, L. Hutchsion 3U, D. Houston 30, V. Bergamini 29. Ladies —Misses O. Stapleton 31, J. Walker 30, A. Stapleton 24. The Hokitika Golf Club’s draw for the L.G.U. Medal Match, to be played cn Saturday is as follows:—Mrs Baird plays Miss Potts; Mrs King plays Mrs Pilkington; Mrs Williams plays Mrs Diedrichs; Mrs Stavely plays Mrs Cooke; Moore plays Miss Lewis; Mrs Burns plays Mrs Morriss; Mrs Butler plays Mrs Baker. At t <io Bowling Club’s annual meetting, over which Mr J. B. Ward (VicePresident ) presided, there were 14 members present. As a mark of respect to the late President, (Mr 11. A. Thompson) the members stood in silence. Messrs Garnet Perry, G. Coles L. Gooch, Alan Stevenson, T. 11. Coltman, Robt. Stuart and J. Conning were elected new members, and the following were elected officers:—President. Mr J. P>. Ward; Vice-President, Mr James King; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr A. E. Benjamin; Auditor, Air J. IT. Wilson; General Committee, Messrs Stevenson, Braddon, Bruce, Lakin. Breeze, J. Wilson, Knowles-Smith, Cooke and C. J. King; Centre Delegate, Mr A. E. Benjamin: Selection Committee, Messrs Hayward, Howard and Stevenson; Ground Committee, Messrs Stevenson, Braddon and KnowlesSmith. Tire subscription was fixed at £2/12/6, with a reduction of 10/6 if paid before November 30th. Hearty votes of thanks fcr services rendered were passed to lady supporters, the Secretary and Auditor, and a special vote of appreciation was passed to the green-keeper (Mr A. Krakowsky) for his work last season. On the motion of Messrs Benjamin and KnowlesSmith. it was resolved that lady supporters nave the free use of the green for play, in appreciation of their support and assistance so freely given. It wps resolved that the 1 opening day be fixed for Saturday, October Bth. The balance sheet stated that the past year proved a satisfactory one financially, and the net debt shows a. reduction of £l2/4/6 oh the previous year, the cost of the new mower being included in the payments. The balance sheet shows that the receipts for the year, including £l7/6/-, the net proceeds of the ball totalled £lO9/1/-.

The expenditure amounted to £96/16/6 thus enabling the overdraft to be reduced from £73/Q/4 to S6l/4/JO. It was mentioned that the Club Singles Championship for the year was won by Mr D. Stevenson, this making the seventh occasion on winch he has been the holder, a unique performance that speaks for itself. The Rev. J. W. Hayward was runner-up. A new mower was secured last season and it proved an excellent machine. At a meeting of the Westland Rugby Sub-Union, Messrs J. Stafford (chair), Cut-bush, Moore, Whiley, Dowell, McDonald and Heenan were present. The subject of Bannister’s non-seleetion was discussed, it being considered his explanation was explicit enough and should satisfy the W.C.R.U. It was resolved to enquire from Buller Union the date of their proposed visit to Hokitika. It was arranged that Rimu and Excelsior A. teams play next Saturday at Hokitika and the following Saturday, Excelsior B. v. Kokatahi. The balance sheet for the Ashburton game was tabled and approved, the net balance to be paid, to Ashburton. It was resolved a balance sheet of the Canterbury match be tabled, for next meeting.
