GOLD INDUSTRY.
REVIVAL FOR WEST AUSTRALIA MELBOURNE June 3 Authority was given by the Federal Government to the development of a migration commission in August last to have an investigation of the present position of the gold mining position in Australia. A technical committee was appointed by the commission to investigate the conditions existing on AVest Australian fields. The chairman, Mr 11. W. Gepp, says the urgency of the position of the industry in West Australia justifies the issue of a report to reorganise the financial groupings of the mines. The commission recommends that certain steps, including amalgamation should be undertaken with a view to prolonging the life of the fields. It holds that underground consolidation is an essential preliminary to any revival of the Until the existence of larger ore re serves is proven there is no justification for the heavy expenditure which would be involved in sinking new modern shafts to eliminate numerous economical -jshafts, and {‘equipment, which are at present used for orc raising.
