REEFTON NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Hockey Suh Association there were present: —Messrs Sharp, Duffy, Newton, J. McGregor, Hubbard, and Miss Hutton. The election of officers resulted: —President, Mr O. B. A. Sharpe; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. Duffy; Selection Committee, Messrs Sharpe, Newton, and McGregor; Rules Committee, Messrs Newton, Sharpe, and Duffy; delegate to the Buller Hockey Association, Mr M. Fagan. There was a large attendance at the installation of officers of the Oddfellows Lodge on Wednesday evening. Bro. W. Absalom, P.G., acted as Conductor, and Bro. S. P. Duffy, 1.P.N.G., was the officiating Installation Master when the following officers were installed:—Bro. 11. W. Hudson, Noble Grand; Bro. T. Woods, Vice Grand; Sister Kearns, Warden; Bro. J. Baxter, Guardian; Bro. W. Absalom, Right Supporter to N.G. There wap a large attendance at the Fire Brigade’s euchre op Thursday evening, the ladies’ prizes being won by Mrs Baxter Ist, Mrs Robins 2nd. Mrs Heald 3rd. The men’s prizes went to Mr J. Aitken Ist, Mr R. Gilroy 2nd, and Mr Ladner 3rd.

The tenth annual report and balancesheet of the Reef ton Coal Company, Ltd., shows a loss of £1421. The output from the mine was 18,125 tons. The demand for spreeped coal was good, but the Company was unable to take full advantage of it owing to the scarcity of orders for slack. The railway line, locomotives, and sheds are reported to be in gootl order. The coal carried was 26,G38 tons, including 9613 tons for adjoining mines. The railway account showed a nett profit of £548. Careful practical attention had bpen paid to briquetting, and further experiments are in progress. The Company proposes to issue £lO,OOO of the unallowed capital as cumulative preference shares, bearing interest at 7 per cent, per annum. COURT NEWS. At a sitting or tr.e Warden’s Court at. Reefton, before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, Warden, Coxall and others sued thf South Blackwater Mines, Ltd., claiming £6ll 3s 6d as damages, etc., for breach of contra t. The case was adjournec till July 14. XIV., Waitahu S.D.— Adjourned to July 14. A. B. Arche: (Mr Patterson) for a coal prospecting license over 45 acres in Blk. VII. Reefton S.D.—Adjourned to July 1. B. L. Hore (Mr Patterson) for a coal prospecting license over 20 acres in Blk. XL, Reefton S.D.—Granted, subject to £5 deposit and £1 10s additional rent being lodged. J. H. Roberts (Mi Patterson) for an ordinary prospecting licence over 75 acres in Blk. XI.V.. Reefton S.D.—Granted. The Redda’c Collieries, Ltd. (Mr Morgan) for a coal lease over 66 acres in Blk. X., Reefton S.D. —Objected to by G. G. Lockington and the Reefton Coal Coy., Ltd. (Mr Patterson) —Adjourned to July 14. A question of costs raised by objectors was reserved. G. G. Three cases against persons for being found on the Burkes' Hotel, Reefton after hours on 28th May, 1927, were .djourned till July 1. Two residents or being found on the Empire Hotel, Valuta, after hoprs on 18th May were ach convicted and ordered to pay 16s Cd. For breach of a prohibition ordea man was convicted without penalty, but was ordered to pay 6s fid witness expenses.
