RUNANGA NOTES.

(Out Own Correspondent). The old-time dance held on Saturday last was a huge success. The Gymnasium, was packed. These dances are very popular, and it is the intention of the Band to hold them every pay Saturday. ’ This evening the usual dance will be held.

On Wednesday evening the Gymnastic girls had a visit from a gentleman gymnast who has just recently arrived from London. The girls greatly appreciated his exhibition, and with their Conductor accorded the visitor a hearty vote of thanks. The hockey girls made the trip to cross sticks with Hokitika hockey girls, the latter winning by five goals to nil. Our girls are none the worse off for their beating, and are looking forward to their next match. They are quite confident that one of these days they will turn the tables and come home victorious. The mines had a holiday on Wednesday to enable the miners to witness the Soccer match, Westland v. Canadians, which resulted much to the surprise of the spectators, in a win for Westland. Some of the Soccerites were very enthusiastic about the outstanding form of some of our local players. . Quite a number of the ladies belonging to the local Soccer Social Committee made the journey to Greymouth to help with the supper at the welcome ball on Tuesday evening, and some of our lovers of the light fantastic were present to welcome the visitors. The League football enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to the matches to be played on Steel Park. Dunollie, to-morrow. It is anticipated that one oi the best games this season will be witnessed in the senior fixture, Blackball v. Runanga. The first game is timed to start at 1.30 and the second at 3 p.m Those in charge of these games would' gain the appreciation of the spectators
