NAKED AND BATTERED MAN.
NAKED man, covered in. bruises,
was carried on a stretcher into the Belgrade Parliament with the object of supporting charges against M. Maximovitch, Minister of the Interior.
M, Maximovitch was charged with having scandalously absused his official powers for personal motives. He indignantly denied the allegat ious, and demanded that his opponents should bring one single shred of material evidence in proof of their charges. “You shall have your proof, and that without delay,” shouted Mr Raditch, the leader of the Opposition. At these words, and at a sign already agreed upon, the doors of the Chamber behind the Speaker’s chair opened, and six Deputies entered carrying on a stretcher a naked man. His body was covered from head to foot with wounds or bruises. This man, it seems, had been arrested the night before by a member of the Belgrade police, on what was alleged to be a trifling pretext
As Mr Rad itch maintained, the man had been beaten black and blue from motives of personal revenge.
Indescribable hubbub ensued inside the Chamber, and the Speaker had to suspend the session.
