DE PINEDO’S RETURN. Welcome at Rome. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) ROME, June 16. Thousands of people waited all day to welcome De Pinedo. After making a perfect landing- he was conveyed to a special wharf, lined by distinguished personages. Premier Mussolini stood aside while De Pinedo saluted his wife, after which the Duce embraced the aviator, saying: “Commander, I bring you a grateful enthusiastic affectionate ■welcome from the entire nation. ’ ’ ANOTHER TRAGEDY. Owing to the monsoon, Carr and Mackworth, who still are waiting for favourable weather, have decided to slightly alter their route, flying in a north-easterly direction across the Sind Desert, instead of to Calcutta. WILKINS’ TRANS-ARCTIC FLIGHT. KITCHIKAN (Alaska), June 17. Captain Wilkins, the Artctic explorer, is planning a lone flight from Fairbanks (Alaska) to Europe, via Greenland, in the late summer.
