GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Owing to the very inclement weather last evening, the Greyniouth Golf Club decided to postpone its annual meeting. ’ ; ’he Club’s annual report is as follows:—The committee can congratulate the members on what was on the whole a successful season, though to some extent it was marred by bad weather and an undue proportion of wet week-ends. The rinks were in good order throughout the year, and the enlarged greens were greatly appreciated. The thanks of the Club are due to the greenkeeper, Mr A. Fairhall, and his assistants, for the careful attention and unremitting labour which they gave to the course throughout the year. The West Coast tournament was held at Greymouth at the end of August,, and was very successful, the weather for the meeting being all that could be desired. The links were in excellent order. In the ordinary course, this year’s tournament would have been held at Westport, but as that Club’s links are not yet in good order, the Club may be compelled to decline the meeting, in which case it will devolve by rotation on Hokitika. The only match for the Dalgleish Shield during the past season was plav ed at the West Coast tournament when according to the rules under which it . is held, the shield came automatically into competition. It was again won by the Westport Club, who had won it the previous year at the West Coast turnament at Hokitika.

The annual match against the Hokitika Club was played on June 3, al Hokitika, Greymouth winning by a ma jority of four matches. On the same day, a junior team from Hokitika play ed a junior Greyniouth team on our links, winning by 9 matches to 3. During the summer months the com mittee has had the greens cut. at fre quent intervals. This has caused a con siderable expenditure not hitherto in curred, but the committe believe that the improvement to the greens has justified the expense. As members are aware, it has been decided to open the 1927 season with a tournament to be held at Easter, op on to members of affiliated clubs. The committee hopes that this innovation will meet with success, and that an Easter tournament will take a penna nent place in the Club’s calandar. Ihe balance sheet will again be found satisfactory. The financial position of the club is sound. The thanks of the Chib are due tc the Greymouth Jockey Club, to tin Greyniouth “Star,” and the “Gre> River Argus” for their kindness in recording the activities of the club and the result of the matches, to the dun ors of trophies during the year, and to the ladies for their assistance in providing afternoon tea. Th(» outgoing committee wish members a pleasant season of golf, and trust that every assistance will be given to the new committee in their efforts on behalf of the Club.
