SPORT IN BULLER.

(By “Sasanof. ”) Knocklyn Knocks Again. One of the most exciting events at the A. and P. Show ■was the mile and a quarter trotting event when the Royal Hotel mare Knocklyn came from the clouds and buried the opposition to effect a popular win for the genial little sport Andy Phillips. Andy handled the ribbons himself and gave one of the best exhibitions of cool, calm and deliberate horsemanship ever seen on the local track. Bryce, Tomkinson and the rest were knocked silly alongside the brilliant horsemanship of the local reinsman and it is understood that some tempting offers have already been made to Andy to take in a string, but he intends to bide awee. The win, of course, was received with great enthusiasm by the sports present, and Andy turned it on to some tune after the race. His many friends will again be on deck when he steers his next , mount to victory. Harry Small was to have driven the 0.Y.A1. mare, but judiciously declined the mount in favour of the owner-trainer. Boosting the Buller. The sporting bodies of estport are acquitting themselves very creditably this year as far as putside competition is concerned. A the start of the new year, at the AVest Coast tennis championships held in AVestport, H. Lockey won the singles, Lockey and Bonnington the doubles, Misses Fountaine and Tulloch the ladies’ doubles,, and Mr Langhorne and Aliss Fountaine the 'combined doubles championships for’ the AVestport Tennis Club. This dis-, trict has turned out some fine tennis players, but this year the talent seems ito be more plentiful than ever. Not to be outdone by the tennis stars, the Westport bowlers made the trip to Grey mouth last week and returned with three championships, viz., rinks, pairs and singles, which were won by Blaxall, Blaxall and Levy, and Harrison. At the close of last season the golfers also won their way through the strong opposition offered them at the West Coast Golf Championships. The sports m the different departments in which they excel deserve all the successes which they have had, as they one and all have practised prior to these championships for some time, and they have all won through on their merits. The Bowing Revival.

The revival in rowing circles is put ting new life into some of the old rowing enthusiasts who have willingly lent a hand to the younger members to put the shed and skidway in a suitable state of repair. On Sunday morning there was quite a good muster, and several crews were seen out in action. Amongst the most promising of the beIginners are Pip Casey and Jock AlcNally, who can be seen getting in some good work qualifying for the day when they can put it across Bradley, Craddock and Co. The Club held a meeting on AVedncsday night, and as there are over thirty rowing members at present available, it was decided tu race the Trial Fours in about a fortnight’s time. It was also decided to form a social committee with Rudge Wood as secretary to run the'dub’s dances and go into the matter of holding a monster picnic.

Tho following crews have been selected for the Trial Fours: AV. Caldwell (s), L. Grogan, R. Hultquist, G. Ellery; J. Caldwell (s), Bonnington, H. Kerr. J. Connolly; 1). O’Neill (s), Pip Casey, V. Caldwell, AV. Blair; A. Pain (s), E. Mulquecn, J. AlcNally, R. Aloloney; A. Bradley (s), R. AleKenzie, O. Stowell, F. Slee. The draw will be advertised shortly, and crews meantime are requested to roll up nightly at the shed. Off Down the Coast. Athletes and cyclists are busily training for the forthcoming Easter events and it is understood a team will be leaving to compete at the Greymouth sports on Afarch 19th. The team will consist of Harris (quarter and half mile flat), AVood (sprint events), J. Connolly (hammer throwing and weight guessing), Lindop, Blair, Hultquist and Caldwell (cycling). Kearns, the crack Buller sprinter, is returning to AVestport, and will probably be included in the team. Air Peter Connolly wiT in all probability accompany the team as manager.
