FATALITIES.
MOTOR TRAGEDY. GISBORNE, Feb. 23. An open verdict was returned by Coroner Hewitt at the inquest into the death of Robert Scott, who was killed in a motor accident at Kaiteratahi on February 12, the Coroner remarking that it was unfortunate there was evidence of drinking by the occupants of the car. If the authorities desired to take further action, they could do so without his comment, and he would not prejudice the driver, Allen Francis Henry Tittier, by commenting. POVERTY BAY IDENTITY KILLED. GISBORNE, February 23. A distressing fatality occurred at Matawhero this evening in the death of Mr. Patrick Malone, the well known horse trainer, and one of the pioneers of Poverty Bay. Mr. Malone was driving in a gig homeward, when he noticed a friend, and shook his whip at him in salutation. The horse sudden iy jumped forward, and Mr. Malone was thrown out, falling heavily on his forehead, and being killed instantaneou.ly. The deceased was 73 years of age. FARMER’S FINANCIAL TRAGEDY. WANGANUI, February 23. William Park, an elderly farmer of Mangmahu, 20 miles from ’Wanganui, shot himself this morning. His wife fceard the shot and found him dead with the top of his head blown off. He died al most immediately. Deceased is said to have had financial worries. He leaves a grown-up family.
