AUSTRALIAN’S SUCCESS. AT MASTERTON. .MASTERTON, Jan. 23. Glorious v, eather prevailed for the Masterton Club’s sports meeting on Saturday, a feature of which was the appearance of Lamb, the Australian cyclist. The visitor displayed great abi lily, and appeared to handle the turn,mg track far better than did Burness on his visit two seasons ago. Great in terest centred in Lamb’s contests and T. Oakley, and in a thrilling finish, hrconquered the local rider by two events to one. Lamb was unplaced in his heat of the mile, the final of which was won be H. Oakley in 2 mins. 13secs. The Australian won the 11 miles Invitation Scratch Race by a w-heel from T. Oakley, who led into the straight. Harrison (Wellington) was close up third. The time was 3.15 1-5. In the three miles Harrison from 150 varus, took the lead, in the last lap, and won by five yards. Lamb again had the best of T. Oakley, who was a -Jose up third. The time was 7.7. Lamb won his heat in the two miles handicap in 4.42 2-5. T. Oakloy won his in 4.37. The final saw Oakley reverse the positions on the visitor, the local rider -dealing a march and winning by twelve yards from Baker, who beat Lamb by a length for second place. The time was 4.49 2-5. There were large fields, necessitating heats in all but the three miles and the scratch race. I A large team of 'Wellington runners gained many successes in the foot field everts.
