AUSTRALIAN REP. NOT TO BE MINISTER TO U.S.A. NEW Y’ORK, January 11. It is understood that the Australian Commissioner, Sir Hugh Dennison, applied to the Australian Premier, Mr S. Bruce, to raise the Commissioner’s office to the rank of a Legation, and to transfer it to Washington. Mr Bruce personally investigated the position in Washington. He found that the ■ amount of work did not warrant the ■ expense, nor the necessity. He has re- ■ plied accordingly to Sir Hugh Dennison.
