'.Our Own Correspondent.) HOSPITAL BOARD. REEFTON, Oct. 28. The Inangahua Hospital Board met on Wednesday evening at 7.30. Present: Messrs J. B. Auld (Chairman), T. Watson, Seawright, Mclnroe, Byrne, Paine and Blackadder. Correspondence was received, as follows:— From Public Trust Department, Greymouth, re Richard Jones’s estate, asking Board to reduce the charge; from R. Betts (Westport) asking that Mr Keyes be admitted as a patient 1o the Hospital; from the County Council, stating the alteration of light in Shiel Street would be attended to; from R. P. Hudson, M.P., re making the Tloip.ital a training school; from Doctor Conlon, enclosing copy of letter forwarded to the Health Department respecting the Hospital being appointed a training school for nurses; from Ihos Phillips, respecting the estate of Carl Hauser, deceased; from Waiuta Medical Association, enclosing cheque for monthly contributions; from Waiutui Ball Committee, enclosing cheque for £l5 and asking that it be devoted to the purchase of goods for the Waiuta Hospital; from the Matron, re hours of labour, and nurses letter to the Board. Messrs Seawright moved that the Public Trustee be informed the Board cannot agree to reduce account against R. Jones’s estate. —Carried. Messrs Watson and Blackadder moved that Mr Keyes will be admitted as a patient, provided the Buller Board guarantees the weekly payment of £3 3s. —Carried. Messrs Mclnroe and Paine moved that the big ward in the hospital be painted.—Carried. Mr Seawright brought up the matter| of cleaning up the Hospital grounds and removing some of the trees m the grou n d. Messrs Seawright and Paine mo -‘.’d that the Matron keep a time book showing hours worked by the proba-

tioners. —( arriod. Mr Seawright asked if no report was received from the Matron and moved that she be written to and asked to furnish a monthly report of lectures given, and also their nature. —Seconded by Mr Watson and carried. Messrs Seawright and Mclnroe moved that the Medical Superintendent be also asked to give a report of Ik" lectures given during the mon th.--Car-ried. The Medical report was:—Reef ton: admitted 9, discharged 11, died 0; remaining in 27, operations 3, outpatienis 2, attendances on outpatients 6. Waiuta: Admitted 3, discharged 2, outpatients 59, attendances 136. COUNTY COUNCIL. At the meeting of the Inangahua County Council correspondence was dealt with as follows: — From Town Clerk, Greyniouth, forwarding copy of resolution re workmen engaged at State Coal Mine ete. —Received, but no action to be taken. From Westland County Council, re Assessment of standing timber and its result on County Revenue.—Resolved to co-operate with Westland County Council in the matter. From Controller and Auditor General, consenting to the Council hiring Cr. W. Blackadder’s horse and dray. ■—Received. From J. Turner, thanking Council for letter of appreciation on his retirement as Nightwatchman. —Received. From F. E. Reid and N.Z. Glove. Coy on matter of dog collars for 1927 season< —L c .ft in the hands of the Clerk to arrange for supplies. From Postmaster General re telephone, Reefton to Maruia, regretting he is unable at the present time to authorise the large expenditure involved for direct communication.—Referred to Chairman, Clerk, and Engineer to draft a reply.

to Section 16 Block Nil, Mawheraiti S.D.—Resolved that Mr Warring be informed the Council applied ior a grant for a road but were not successful in receiving same. From County Solicitor, opinion re claim by D. W. Robenson for damage to motor lorry. —Received. From Inglewood Tributers, asking for reconsideratiou of application tor; payment for work done on road. — Tributers to be paid £5 in full settlement of work done on the road. From District . Engineer Public Works Department, re Brown ('reek Road and bridge forwarding Under Secretary’s letter thereon ami from J. \V. Ward, Sawniiller re Brown (’reek Road.—Referred to Engineer to ascertain the amount of work done by sawmillers; also royalty paid by them and forward information to the Minister Public Works! Crs O’Regan and Paine moved that Mr Ward be granted permission to erect a tram on Rough Creek bridge, subject to the conditions to be imposed by the Engineer. From John Banks, asking permission to use the water from overflow of reservoir at Boatmans. —Referred to the Engineer to • report to the next meeting. From P. J. Molloy, asking for an extension of time in which to commence contract for road to Blackwater South Shaft Site and also for consideration re amount deducted from previous contract. —Applicant was granted two weeks’ extension to commence the contract, and the Engineer’s action in the matter of deduction from previous contract was endorsed. From Mrs Gamble, offering her dwelling as a rest room. —Received. From Mawheraiti School Committee, requesting gravel be placed at the gates.—Resolved on motion of Crs Clayton and Byrne that the matter be referred to the Engineer. McKercher and Monteiths tender for metalling Springland s —Matakit aki road at 3/4 per load was accepted, being the only tender. The Engineer was. instructed to renew the barbwire round the pound, also to employ a second man on the Maruia, road . Crs Paine and O’Regan moved that the Chairman endeavour to effect a revival of the Prospecting Association. —Carried. Crs. Clayton and Pyrne moved that the Public Works Department be asked to expedite the work on the Burton’s Creek road.—Carried. Crs. Blackadder and Watson moved that the. Engineer inspect the road between Springs Junction and Maruia River.—Carried.

Crs Blackadder and Watson moved that the attention of the Public Works Department be drawn to the damage being done by pigs on the Mata kit ak i-Sp rings J unction road.—C arried.

Crs Byrne and Clayton moved that the Engineer he instructed to reporj; on the matter of Montgomery Road, Hukawai. —Carried. Cr Auld and the Chairman moved that, the Engineer place guy ropes on the water syphon over the river, on Blacks Point Road.—Carried. Crs O’Regan and Paine moved that the Engineer locate the road line as rcIqnircd by Mr Mnrcott. A division resulted:—For: Crs Paine, O’Regan and the Chairman; Against: Crs Clayton, Bhiclsadder. Watson, Byrne and Aubl, the resolution being lost.

Crs Paine and O’Regan moved that the Engineer locate the road line for Mr Mnrcott, provided Mr Mnrcott pays the cost of same. The Chairman declared the resolution lost. Crs Paine and O’Regan moved that the Public Works Department be asked to expedite the construction of Beyers Bridge. —Carried. The Chairman and Cr Auld moved (that the, School Committee be asked if the school children are prepared to take over the beautifying of the Soldiers’ Memorial plot.—Carried. ;
