Alexander Reefs Road.
Mr. 11. E. Holland M.P., has received the following communication from the Minister of Mines:— “With reference to your interview with me regarding the question of road access to the Alexander Reefs Road, I have to inform you that those concerned have already been notified that the construction of a road to the locality will not be undertaken until such time as the mine has been proved at depth and the Government is satisfied that it contains a sufficient quantity of payable ore to justify the enormous expense involved. Certain preliminary surveys have been can'ied out, and arrangements will shortly be made to undertake detailed survey of a road to the Reefs via Snowy River. A short time ago I promised representatives of the Alexander Reefs Gold Mining Company Limited, that, in order to improve the track to the Reefs via Snowy River, I was prepared to favourably consider a grant of £5OO for the purpose, provided the same was expended on a line that a--surveyed road would ultimately follow. As soon as it is ascertaine'd that the portion of the track for which the money is required, will form part of such road, then I purpose submitting the matter to Cabinet for the necessary authority for expenditure of the £500.”
