WELLINGTON, July 21. » Speedy completion of the WestportJ.Greymouth Coast Road was urged by ia deputation from the West Coast which waited oh the Minister for Public Works, the Hon. K. S. Williams today. Mr 11. E. Holland, who introduced the deputation, said that a great many settlers, including returned soldiers, would benefit by the completion of .the gap of a little less than two miles. There was a fair stretch of limestone country there yet to be opened up. Replying to the Minister, Mr Holland said that three bridges which would have to be constructed on the road did not affect the uncompleted portion. Mr Seddon (Westland) said the road would be very popular and widely used when completed, interesting all sections of the Coast. Mr J. Ryall (Grey County) asked that provision be made in this year’s Estimates for the formation, if not the metalling. The cost of the formation would be about £7OOO. Support to the request was given by Mr J. Sangston (Punakaiki Farmers’ Union), the lion. 11. L. Michel, M.L.C., and Mr Stuart-Wilson (Buller Progress League), the last-named stressing the scenic advantages of the district. The Minister reiterated his intention to visit the district after the session and promised to have the deputation’s request investigated when the District Engineer came to Wellington.
