WAIUTA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) .Mrs. Tapp (Reefton) spent the weekend at Waiuta, the guest of Airs. O’Donnell, of the Empire Hotel. Aliss Cameron (.Hastings) is spending a few days at Waiuta. Miss Langley, the talented young pianist, was successful in passing her examination in connection with Trinity College of Alusic. Aliss Langley passed with honors. Excellent progress is being made with the work of clearing the site for tho public tennis courts oh the Recreation Ground. The committee hope to have the two courts rOady for playing in a few months’ time. The work is being carried out by Air Con. Herlihy. Preparations arc well in hand for the Bachelors’ Ball to be held on the 7th. of next month. The decorations are to be on an elaborate and costly scale, and the Waiuta bachelors are leaving no stone unturned to make the function a. huge success. Owing to illness and injuries among the players, the local League Club wore obliged* to seek a postponement, of their fixture with Roofton last week-end. A largely attended meeting of players and supporters was held in the hall on Sunday evening, to deal with the action of the Centre, in ordering .another round to be played for the Flannigan Cup. After a good deal of discussion it was unanimously carried that this Club refuse to participate in any fixtures /.for the Flannigaii Cup after the third round. It was also decided to ask the Sub-Centre to provide a banner for a knock-out competition. Air Dave McKane was elected to represent the Club on the sub-centre. A team from the local Clay Pigeon Club, took part in the shoot for the Shield held at Totara Flat during the week end. The local team, however, were not ih the running, the Shield be ing won by the All aura Club, Air W. Houston was the only one of the local team to strike form. Stan Purton is in training for the amateur championships to be held at Greymouth on Saturday. New Zealand’s Flyweight champion will again be to the fore.
