The Orewa ventured out to the mouth of the river last evening to commence her voyage io Lyttelton, but turned back owing to the state of the bar. 4? & KAITUNA ARRIVES.
After being held up in the Greymouth roadstead since Saturday evening owing to the bar being unworkable the Kaituna arrived at the wharf yesterday morning with a general cargo from Auckland. The steamer left the northern port at 1.12 a.m. on Wednesdav last and encountered strong winds and rough seas. A moderate breeze was blowing when she signalled Greymouth at 6.8 n.ni. on Saturday. The Kaittna commenced loading coal and timber yesterday for Auckland, /or which D*ort she is scheduled to sail this evening. INGA IN PORT. The Inga arrived at Greymouth early this morning from Waikokopu and commenced loading a cargo of timber for Sydney. While at the North Island port the steamer encountered verv rough weather. She arrived at Waikokopu from Gisborne on July 10, but owing to the big swell which was running, she was unable to go alongside the wharf. The wind increased to a gale and continued on the 11th •ind 12th until on Tuesday the 13th it rose to a hurricane, and blew with meh force that the vessel hauled up mchor and sought shelter from the high seas under the lee of Cape Kid nappers. On Wednesday the seas moderated and the Inga returned to Waikokopu and was able to berth at the wharf. After discharge of her cargo, she left last Friday for Greymouth. I’he run down was a fine one, and tha Inga arrived in the roadstead last evening.
