RACING CONFERENCE.

STEWARD PATROLS. WELLINGTON, Juh 7. At the Racing Conf.rence Sir George Clifford was re-elected chairman, ami his services were eudtgised. Considerable discussion took place on the Waikato remit, that Hunt Ulub.holding race meetings at which tutaii ’sators are used, shall hold such meet ings during a period between April J and September 30. Its supporter.pointed out that if Hunt Clubs hclu their meetings outside these dates they encroached on the Racing Clubs. The opponents stated that the mo tion would hamper the Hunt Clubs, which could not begin their season until May. It was to hunters that racing had to look for their steeplechasers. The remit was lost by 22 votes tc Tl. A motion of Canterbury J.C. that entries for races to be run at least si> months after the nominations, shall close on the second Friday in June in each year, was carried. Trainers’ and jockeys’ licenses in future are to be £1 10s, and those ot i apprentices l()s. These fees are to 15< i paid into the Accident Fund, together with a contribution of £1 10s per horse by tne owners. The President moved: That the conference recommends that, the stewards or committee of each club, shall watch the races from different parts of the course, and shall report to the stewards or the judicial committee at the end of each race, the result of their ob servations, before the order is given directing the totalisator dividends to be. paid, but that these Patrol Stewards shall not adjudicate on any mat ter on which they have tendered evidence. F

It was pointed out by several delegates that such a scheme would be unwieldy and that the patrols would be hard to organise; also that the delay while the reports were being made would prevent the programme being carried out. Mr J. S. Barett said the proposal was only a recommend jtion. He thought the scheme an excellent oneThe motion was lost on the voices THE COUNTRY CLUBS. WELLINGTON, July 7.
