He could congratulate Xew 1 Zealand on its -musicians and future musical outlook. In the second test “Border Sungs.” one band had playet exceptionally well, and its performance indeed had’been a trifle bettor than that of the winners: but must unfortunately, the intonations uf the bund had been bad. Greymouth would have won more points but tor slightly fault} ir.touiitic-ns. Homo of the bands ha< lost the spirit of the selection, and had expressed just a little too much senti- • merit, which had become sickly. The Groymouth Municipal Band (conductor. Air A. Mv.Masteri. the leaders of the ! first test, put up a brilliant perlunnant'c, and interpreted the selection in lit must effective manner. Thu balance land blend of tone were really first- • class. The performance was very coliouiful throughout, and the sectional I work was quite satisfactory. As on the i ’Ti st night, the intonation uf this band | was guod. The performance throughout I was excellent. Gems of the full band i*‘Ettrick and Teviotdale. ’ ’ and the I movement were the stirring march I finale ‘‘Tcrlbus*’ (Border war sung), ; while the expressive cornet work in the I “Border Widows’ Lament ” was a fine feature. The* euphonium movement. “The Yellow-Haired Laddie, ’’ was also a pleasing piece of work, and altogether the performance was sulid and good.
