CYCLE THEFT.

AUCKLAND, Februaiy 11. “At the present time there is quite quite an epidemic of bi(\cie stealing, and I would ask your \\ord>ip to make an example of the accused,’' said Cliief Detective Cummings at the Police Court this morning, after John Hamlin had jileaUcd guilt\ L> the theft of a bicycle valued at th e property of David Crcorge Dacker. Chief Sergeant Issell said that ,G cycle was stolen from the Railway Employees’ stand at the railway station, and was sold bv --• e accused to a. dealer for £3. The Chief Detective said that although Hamlin had no' been in trouble before he was married and lived apart from his wife and child, die had not made much of an effort to maintain them.
Acting on the request, of the Chief Detective. Magistrate Poynton sent Hamlin to gaol for three months.
