GOVERNOR-GENERAL.

HOKITIKA VISIT. o*l'Saturday the Governor-General and party departed by the 7.50 a.m. train for Hokitika. Eh route His Excellency’s train halted at Awatuna, where he was met by a troop of Boy Scouts, in charge of Mr. Seward, and to whom he gave an address. The Scouts gave salutes. and cheers for the Governor-General. At Sea View Sir (lias, Fergusson loft The train and visited the Westland Hospital, in company with the Hob. H. L. Michel, M.L.C.. Messis G. A. Peny (Mayor of Hokitika) T. E. V. Soddon M.P., and H. M. Coulson (Deputy Mayor of Hokitika), who were present to meet him on arrival. Subsequently there was a civic welcome in Hokitikai, which was numerously attended, and later the GovernorGeneral attended n gala dav organised by the Beautifying Society. The Governor-General left on his return by the 5.20 p.m. train.

The. Governor-General, aceoriipanied by Lady Fergusson and party, made an official visit to Hokitika to-day. They first visited the Westland Hospital and then motored to the front of the Free Public Library, where a public address was presented from the people of Westland. The speakers included the Mayor, County Chairman, and Mr T.-.E. V. Seddon, M.P.

His Excellency replied, a splendid address being heartily cheered at the conclusion. Subsequently the party motored to the Rimu Flat Dredge, ami thence to Lake Kaniferi, where they luncheoned. On their return, the party attended a gala at Cass Square, and received a hearty send-off at the railway station. Perfect weather prevailed, and the visit was very successful.
