WESTLAND L.R C.

A CANARD NAILED, In Monday's issue of tho “Argus,’’ the fact was recorded that, among other Labour organisations, the Greymouth Port Waterside Workers’ Union was represented at last meeting of the Westland Labour Representation Committee. Somebody, thinking either to discredit the L.R.C. or to fool our evening contemporary, got the latter ‘to assert on Monday evening that our report was an untruthful one as regarded the Watersiders’ Union. Yesterday, however, the “Star’’ published the following correction of its allegation in the form of a letter from Mr Charles Fraser, President of the Watersiders’ Union: I notice in “par’’ in to-night’s (Monday’s) Star that some member of the Greymouth Waterside Workers ’ Union has been up to his old tricks again—that is, misleading you as to tho doings of the Union to which he belongs, and sir, I just want to say this of your informant 1 He is either a full, brother to Ananias or he is woefully uninformed of the affairs of his own Union, I have no doubt that this man is one of the few who, instead of attending the meetings of his Union and taking an intelligent part in the various matters debated thereat, prefers to absent himself and then later on, air his ignorance of Union affairs—a sample of which appears in your columns to-night. I may state for the information of all concerned, that at the last stopwork meeting of our Union, which was held on Thursday last, it was unanimously resolved that the Union bo represented at the next meeting of the local L.R.C. and on nominations being called I, along with another member, shared the honour of being selected as the Waterside Workers’ delegates at the meeting of the Greymouth Labour Representation Committee 011 Saturday last. It is quite obvious, therefore, that the report published in the “Argus ’ relative to the meeting of the local L.R.C. in which it is stated that delegates were present representing the Gieymouth Waterside Workers’ Union is not incorrect.
