HARI HARI NOTES
(Our own. CVrrespondenft.) HARI HARI, August 8. A sports meeting will be held here next Thursday, the 13th inst., and no stoie is being left unturned to make the day's outing a success. The Committee have a real good programme prepared, and all that will be required to make a pleasant gathering will be a fair day.
The schools hereabouts will break up on Friday next, 14th inst., for the usual term holidays, lasting a fortnight. The past wet weather in these parts has been cutting up the road on the Flat. We have a piece of unformed road of about 45 chains to connect Robertson Road with Haddock Road, but to get over this piece is a hard task, as it is nothing but bog holes. The Westland County Council have been approached through the Members for the Southern Ridings time and again, but the only satisfaction that can be obtained from the Council is that they are looking for a grant from the Public Works Department. When the County Chairman (Mr Chesterman) was on the Flat a few weeks ago, he was asked to go over the piece referred to, and h e gave his word that he would, but at the time he promised to go around that wny he must have forgotten that he was travelling per car, or else some kind person let him “into the know” that if he wanted to get back to Hokitika with his car, he had better not travel by that route. So, instead, ho decided +o have a look at Peterson Road, and a part of Robertson Road. Three or four Ford tractors that hambeen on order this last few weeks are now to be forwatded to Ross, They will be conveyed from Ross per motor lorry here for the owners.
Mrs L. S. Robertson, along with her two children, has arrived home after spending a few weeks in Westport. Mrs John Ferguson has arrived home after spending a few days in the Hokitika district.
Mr Jns. Scott, of the Edwards Tailoring Coy, Christchurch, has just completed a tour of the southern townships. A spring -cattle sale will be held here early in September. The Rev. Young left here on Sunday last on his quarterly long senth trip to Okura. A mob of 50 prime Hereford bullocks, from Sullivan Bros’ run nt. Weheka, passed through here one dav Inst week to bo railed from Ross, consigned to a well-known Cobden butcher.
