IN CANTERBURY Three Feet of Snow in Places CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 9. There is no improvement in the wentlier, Which is bitterly cold'. The gale is still raging, but there has not been quite so much ruin to-day. Snow, up to three feet in places, is reported from the eciwitry districts, and heavy mortality among newly bora lambs is anticipated. No work has been done on tho waterfront at Lyttelton for two days. Power is now available from Lake Coleridge, iu& the railway traffic is back to nornial. The ferry steamers arc making fair time from Wellington, consideriuig the conditions they have to face. It is not yet known whether the Trots will be postponed to-morrow. OTAGO RAINFALL.
