There was again a large entry for last hight’s euchre drive at Columba Hall, one hundred and fifty players competing for the valuable prizes. The prize-winners were: Ist, Mrs Preston; 2nd, Mr A. Couinbc; 3rd, Mr S. Rose; 4th, Mrs P. Keating.
The presentation of the Scddon Medal, which was won by Master William Davis, of the * Runanga State School, will take place to-day at Runanga. Mr W. S. Clark (Mayor) will present the medal, and Mr W. H. Parfitt (Mayor of Greymouth) will also be present.

The Runanga Boys’ Soccer Club intend holding their annual children’s plain add fancy dress ball on Friday evening, August 7, in the Miners’ Hall. Runanga. According to the interest taken at children's donee practices, th? hall will be filled to its full capacity, and the task of judging the fancy dresses by Mr W. S. Clark, Mayor of Runanga, will be no light one. Good prizes for fancy dress for girls and boys, also lucky number dance, kindly donated by Soccer enthusiasts, will be. given. The annual conference of the Westralian Labour Party rejected a motion afiitming the desirability- of a five-day-working week. The conference affirmed the principle' of a maximum working day of eight hours and a week of 44 hours. A card vote was demanded on a motion for, a 44-hour week worked in five or six days, as arranged by- the unions concerned. The card tote was defeated by- 202 votes to 47.
