(Special to Argus.) WI'STI’OHT, July 2S. On Mondnv evening’ the electric cab les from the power house were laid along Brougham street as far as .lie Borough pound yard. It is only a matter now of a few days when the cables will be connected with the transformers at the Town Hall workshops. The generating machinery is at work day and night at the power house, and everything is moving 1 ice clockwork. The Telegraph Department has just dismantled its telephone wires from the poles in Palmerston street, and all the teleph'.tie cables are now working from underground. The Borough electric stall are at work erecting the poles in Palmerston street to attach the cables, when tile Main Street is completed which will be a few weeks time, then the official installation of electric light will take place. Mr. loin Hepburn, formerly of the plumbing .department of the Westport Borough (.’ouneil has lately j< hied the gallant army of benedicts in the capital city. The I‘lunket Society intend holding a children’s ball in about a> months time. M.s I’.ivne won the forty-fives prize. The Buller rep team, who arrived home last evening were the guests of the club on the occasion. At the close of the day's work tn Monday afternoon at the Government workshops, Mr. Griffiths who is being transferi'jl to Addington, was presented by his fellow workers with a portmanteau and two brief bags. Mr. Douglas MeNeight was also pre sented with an easy chair as a wedding present from the workshops employees. Mr. Taylor, workshops foreman made the presentation on behalf of the men,
