CARNIVAL “HONOURS”

The first to bow his knee before Iler Majesty was the Mayor of Greymouth, who rote “Sir” ‘William Paifitt, Lord High Chief Justice of Her Majesty's Dominions. Dr McKay was also created a “Knight”—Sir William McKay, Knight Commander of the Bath. Mr E. MeDon.iell, after he had brushed the dust off his knees, suddenly became aware that he was Sir Edward McDonnell, High Treasurer and Keeper of the (fold Key, a key tile size of a Scotchman's thirst, benig presented to him. Mr A. MeKane was “created” Sir Albert MeKane, Keeper of Her Majesty’s Shrubberies. All the foregoing members of the Committee were merely knighted, but it fell to the lot of two to be raised to the “peerage.” These fortunate ones were Messrs P. Beck and A. Beban. The former will in future be known as the Earl of Becknndi all, and Air Beban is iow Lord Artichoke, com-mander-in-chief of Her Majesty’s Tug-of-War.
It was a very solemn proceeding, so the onlookers laughed heartily at it. So did Her Majesty, So did the honoured ones. The reporters hurried out in case there were any more,
