PARLIAMENT

ATMORE SUMMED LT. Mr Peter Fraser in his recent speech in reply to Mr Atmore, said, inter alia I may say in regard to the childish challenges that the hou. member has made a habit of throwing out—-he used to challenge the late Prime Minister (Mr Massey) to go down to Nelson and debate with him—that sort of thing has become a habit, a disease, with the lion gentleman. It is something that he has no control over, something for which he is not responsible; and he deserves the pity of ordinary, rational, thinking people. ±ne jion gentleman talks about the challenge he has thrown. On two occasions, at any rate, I challenged him to debate the Objective, the Platform, the planks of that Platform, and the Principles of th e New Zealand Labour Party, and he ran away from the challenge. I challenge him again to debate that subject anywhere he likes, in Wellington or in Nelson, or anywhere he likes. But his game of throwing challenges across the floor of the House is not a game I want t follow the hon gentleman in. May I call attention to the fact that this upholder of law and order, this great pillar of the Constitution, ended his address with a laudation of the Fascist! and Mussolini. This miniature Mussolini from across Cook’s Strait!
