TARIFF AGITATION
TORY POLITICIAN’S CONTRIBUTION. (Received June 30 at i>.s p.m.) LONDON, June 29. Sir Robert Horne, M.P., (ex-Chan-cellor of the Exchequer) in a prolae.e to Mr F. ‘L. McDougall's book “Sheltered Markets,” says:—“lt must be realised that it is our Empire trade alone that saves us from depression even worse than that at present. Me have arrived at a juncture where the problem for consideration is how we can best adjust our economic and commercial relations with our brethren overseas, in order to save ourselves from a disastrous fate, in which our present attitude of drift would certainly involve us. It would seem to be dictated by common sense that we should give to our Dominions populations( of which they stand in need), ■who, in turn, would increase the Do■minions’ valuable market for our goods that We at. present enjoy. This proposition involves an immediate policy of granting preference to the Dominions.’
