1 )OMINI On’cC )NFEREN( E. HAWERA, June 30 the annual meeting- of the Nation al Dairy Association was held here to-day 280 delegates from all parts ot the Dominion being present. I’toeeeitings were presided over by Mr. i. B. Murdoch (Deputy-Chairman ). Hon. Mr. Bollard was present ;u the opening stages. The Mayor, Mi E. H. Pacey, briefly welcomed didelegates and the Minister. The lai ter in replying, remarked upon the value of the dairying industry to the Dtmfinlion and expressed the hope that farmers would support the Dairy Control, and give it a fair show. He advised caution in financial matters, and urged the producers to put something away for " rainy day. The cow had saved the country in 1921. She might do so again. The Chairman, in the course of : i ■ address, stressed the necessity of increasing the butter fat average, anil of improving the, quality of the ' i - lures. The diseases of dairy presented another big question. Eiforts should be made to improve ft conditions of the farmers, and lor the development of side lines, and th" improvement of containers. The ' i.ancial position of the Association was sound. Business had in-r-vised approximately <BOO since (he previous year. A ballot to fill vacancies in the executive resulted:—Taranaki T Winks (Ararata) ; Wellington Moss, (Newman) ; Auckland, i Allen (Cambridge) ; Hawkes Bax . J Gilden (Mahajahara). The delegates during £heir visit will be entertained ,the local '-ommittee having made extensive ar rangements for this puipose. WINTER SHOW OPENS. HAWERA, June 30. , The South Taranaki Winter Show was opened this afternoon by the Hon. lift- Bollard. The weather was unfavourable. but nevertheless there were large numbers of people in town for the Show. A large number of exhibits were received, which contained several novel features, and combined to make one of the best displays seen here in connection with a Winter Show.
