LA FOLLETTE’S PARTY
; WILL IT SURVIVE HIM? IKFITBLH'ANS TRY TO LND THIRD PARTY. (Received June 27 at 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 26. A message from Madison, Wisconsin, states the local Legislative has chosen tlie late Senator La Follette as the subject for the second of the two statues to which tli<» State is entitled in the Naional Hall of Fame in ho capital at Washington. The death of Senator Ladd, of North Dakota, another Independent, within a few- days of Senator La Follette’s death, leaves the Third Party searching for a strong' cohesive leader. Mrs La Follette is certain to he elected if she becomes a candidate for ■ her late husband’s unexpired term of Senatorship, but she is reluctant to enter politics. Air Robert La Follette, junr., may attempt to succeed his father, but the latter’s followers ar e divided regarding his capability. The second son, Phillip, is expected to leave the law and become a candidate for Governor of Wisconsin. Meantime, the Republicans arc doing everything possible to capitalise thc situation, and to recapture their former prestige in the Independent strongholds, as a part of which programme, President Coolidge personally visited Minnesota shortly before the death of 'Senator La bollctte. The situation summarised, appears to be that the fate of thc Third Party in the I’nited States is hanging in the balance.
