(Our Own Corresponilorit). Owing io the bush area being out out, the Gold Prospecting Syndicate’s Sawmill on the Lake Kanicri Road is about to-close down. The south trader. Elsie, sailed last evening for Bruce Bay with general cargo. The vessel is expected to return to Hokitika about Thursday with 200 fat sheep on behalf of Messrs J. Condon and C. Bush. Mr R. Wild, local representative on the Canterbury Education Board, left yesterday morning to attend the monthly meeting of that body in Christchurch. The building trade, continues to be slack hero, quite a number of carpenters being out of work, while others arc only working part time, t At, Ross Warden’s Court, Aynsley Adair Moore (Mr J. A. Murdoch) sued the Ross Borough Council (Mr W. J. Joyce) for £.190 for negligent construction and maintenance of a reservoir. The plaintiff stated that during heavy rain the reservoir burst its banks and damaged his dwelling house. The Warden visited the place and the case was adjourned for the production of the remainder of the evidence. The usual weekly euchre and dance took place at St Mary’s Club Rooms on Monday evening. The attendance ’was large. The first ladies’ prize was won by Miss K. Lock and the second by Miss N. Lock, and the first gent *s •by Mr Hoy and the second by Mr J. Kay. The winners of the lucky table were Miss Eggling, Mrs C. Gibbons and Messrs T. Parry and Groufsky.
