WOMAN KILLED BY CAR. AUCKLAND, May 28. Ernestine Felton, married, nineteen, resident ot Maugere, died at the hospital from injuries received when knocked down last night by a motor .car, driven by Owen Cockroft. She suffered severe concussion. LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION. WELLINGTON, May 28. A conference of delegates from the various branches of th.e League of Nations Union is being held to-day. Pro fe sso r Salldl i ff e (Christchurch) is presiding. Delegates are present from Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Gis borne, Opunakc Masterton and Wellington. Mrs K. M. Evans was appointed secretary. The delegates after hearing a re port by the secretary spoke in turn on the progress of their own particular branches. On the motion of Dr. Gibb, amendments to the constitution were made. The organisation is to be known in future as the League of Nations’ Union of New Zealand. MASONIC ORPHANAGE BEQUESTS. WELLINGTON, May 28. Under the will of the late Samuel Kirkpatrick, the well known manufacturer and prominent citizen of Nelson, he bequeaths his residential property at Nelson, with buildings, furniture,, and household effects to be held upon trust by a board of governors elected by all the Masonic Lodges in New Zealand, as a Masonic institution or boarding establishment for the maintenance and education of orphans and daughters of Masons. The sum of £5OOO is also given for the purpose of establishing and maintaining the institution. I He also bequeaths £lOO per annum for prizes for athletic sports of the institution, and £2OO per annum for pocket money for the children, to be distributed as follows:—£100 on October 5 each year find £lOO nt Christmas time; £5O per annum for employees of the institution by way of bonus; t£so per annum for scholastic prizes for the children. 'l’he balance of the income of the estate is given to the Board of Governors for the purpose of cr.rrying out the deceased’s wishes in regard to the Masonic institution which he desires to be established. Mr Kirkpatrick als> makes bequests to Masonic and other bodies in Nelson. I FISHING PROSECUTION. _ I THAMES, May 28. | ! Percy Colquhoun, fisherman, was found guilty of fishing with a Danish seine net, within prohibited limits ir the Firth of Thames. He was ordered to pay tho costs of the prosecution. His boat and gear are to be forfeited. FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE. GISBORNE, May 28. With reference to the Tokomaru Bay Freezing Works trouble, the Inspector of Factories has filed against the Secretary of the Union a charge of instigating- a strike; also against the Union of instigating the strike, or alternatively, that they aided and abetted a strike. The total damages claimed amount to £2OO. CROSSING COLLISION. FEILDING, May 28. A train crashed into a car at Kimbolton road crossing at 7.45 last night. The car was carrying W. McAllcy (driving), C. Noble, and Angelica .Noble, all young people. Fortunately. no one was seriously hurt though the car was carried some distance by the engine before being thrown off.
