THIS WEEK’S PRICES. VEGETABLES AND FRUIT. Cabbages are still plentiful, Savoys selling at 4d and Cd each.- Cauliflowers arc a bit cheaper. They cost 9d, Is and Is 3d according to size and quality. Lettuces are now getting scarce and’ they are now being retailed at 3d a piece. Spinach costs 4d a bunch, celery 9d a bunch, parsnips, carrots, white turnips and beetroot 2d a bunch, leeks 6d a bunch, Spring onions Id a bunch, radishes Id a bunch, marrows 2d a lb. pumpkins 2d a lb, pickling onions 121 b for Is, table onions 61b for Is, good table potatoes 101 b for Is, hothouse grown cucumbers Is a lb.
Locally grown grapes, which are now practically finished, cost 2s 6d, 3s and 4s a lb according to quality. Oranges and bananas are more plentiful than has been the ease foL JJpme time. Cook Island oranges arc being retailed at three, four, six and eight for Is, and bananas at from six to twenty-four for Is. Marmalade oranges, the first of the season, were on sale in the shops to-day at 9d a lb. Tomatoes cost 8d 9d and Is a lb, pears (Winter Coles) 4d and 6d a lb, first grade Jonathan apples 31b for Is 3d, first grade Delicious 6d a. lb, first grade Lord Wolse. ley cooking apples 31b for Is, passion fruit six for Is, Italian lemons four for Is, pie melons fot jam 51b for Is. Pineapples are very scarce in Christchurch at present.
