PRICE OF WHEAT

FARMERS GET INCREASE. ASHBURTON. April 25 Mr John Brown (President of the Mid-Canterbury Farmers. Union) states that an increase of fivepenco per bushel for this season’s wheat was agreed upon at a conference at Wellington yesterday, between the representatives' of the Farmers’ Union and the flourmillevs. The new prices, which come into fores to-day, are:— Tuscan, 6/8 per bushel: Hunters 6/1(1 Pearl 7/- a bushel, all f.o.b. The former figures were:— Tuscan 6/3; Hunters 6/5; Pearl 6/7 Millers according to Mr Brown, wh > attended the conference, are prepared to lift all tho wheat from the paddocks within two months, if necessary. The prices are guaranteed for at least two months. Mr Brown states that tho Farmers’ Union has agreed to rec onimend the farmers to sell at the increased prices. As far as the Union’s information goes, this is considered the best course. NEW FLOUR PRICE. AUSTRALIAN WHEAT FOR MILLERS. WELLINGTON, April 26. Hon. Mr Nosworthy makes the fol lowing statement regarding the Wheat Conference: — The millers have agreed to a readjustment of prices, and to offer ths farmers 6/8 for Tuscan, 6/10 for Hunters, and If- for Pearl, and all the milling wheat is to be taken over within the next two months. The wheat growers’ representatives arc to recommend strongly their'branches to accept the offer. The millers have determined on prices as follows: £lB per ton for flour, f.o.b. south. Price not to exceed £8 per ton for bran, f.o.b. south. Price not to exceed £9 for pollard. Australia is to be reduced from £2 His to £1 per ton. The millers are to find the cash for whont from Australia to bridge the gap until the next harvest, and the Government are to purchase, on their own account. Cabinet has confirmed this. CHICAGO, April 23. Fire destroyed two million bushels of grain and two elevators. The loss is estimated at two million dollars. NEW YORK. April 23. At Chicago, wheat quotations are:— May 153 J cents per bushel, July lilt cents, September 1331 cents.
