LEAGUE FOOTBALL
LATE- ENGLISH TQUR. | LONDON, December 2. I The British Rugbyites who toured Australiasia received £75 each as theii share of the profits. It is expected they will receive a furthr Zl6. Tlk newspapers point out that they enjoyed liberal travelling expenses and allowances to dependents. It is computed that each player cost £350. RULES REVISED. LONDON, December 2. The Rugby League has issued interpretations of rules arising from reports by the touring managers Daunatt and Osborne pointing out the differences between English and Australasian practices. The League has decided the present unsatisfactory manner wherein the play the ball rule operates, can be obviated by obedience to the law as it stands. It instructs the referees to rigidly enforce the underlying principle which is to bring the ball bacK mto play with the least possible delay, after a tackle. It adds that :it is a violation of ’.lie law to put the ball down in touch with the foot and then fall on the ball, repeating the operation and allowing the defence to consolidate. It was decided that, a scrum, not a penalty, should bo ordered fof a forward pass. It was decided that N.Z. is wrong in the practice of putting men on side which Law .10 clearly governs. It was decided that the Australasian practice is illegal in having emer genev players ready on the touch to replswe injured men. This is against the spirit and tradition of Rugby and is a tmnptation to include an unsound player, knowing if he breaks down, they can have a substitute.
